The September 17, 2015 auction of Fine Chinese Paintings & Calligraphy is highlighted by good works by Fu Baoshi, Shitao, Qi Bashi, Li Keran, Lin Fengmian and Zhang Daqian.

Lot 658 is a hanging scroll by Fu Baoshi (1804-1965) entitled "Scholars Traveling at the Red Cliff."  It measures 48 1/8 by 22 5/8 inches.  It has an estimate of $400,000 to $600,000.  It sold for $550,000 including the buyer's premium as do all results mentioned in this article.

The auction total was $10,322,125 with 80 percent of the offered lots selling.


Fu Baoshi  686

  Lot 686, "Gourd and Bluefly," by Qi Bashi, 7 3/8 by 9 3/8 inches

Lot 686 is a good work by Qi Bashi 91864-1957) that is entitled "Gourd and bluefly."  It measures 7 3/8 by 9 3/8 inches.  It has an estimate of $40,000 to $60,000.  It sold for $55,000.


Feng Mian 627

Lot 627, "Lotus and geese," by Lin Fengmian, 26 3/4 by 53 1/4 inches

Lot 627 is a good work by Lin Fengmian (1900-1991) that is entitled "Lotus and geese."  It measures 26 3/4 by 53 1/4 inches.  It has an estimate of $160,000 to $220,000.  It sold for $394,000.


Shitao 530

Lot 530, "Landscape," by Shitao, 15 1/2 by 10 3/8 inches

Lot 530, Landscape by Shitao (1642-1718), 15 1/2 by 10 3/8 inches.  The estimate is 30,000 to $50,000.  It failed to sell.

Keran  683

Lot 683, "Landscape," by Li Keran, 26 1/2 by 16 1/8 inches


Lot 583 is a handsome work by Li Keran (1907-1989 entitled "Landscape."  It measures 26 1/2 by 16 1/8 inches.  It has an estimate of $300,000 to $500,000.  It sold for $370,000.



Nong   578

Lot 578, "Bamboo," by Jin Nong, 8 3/8 by 10 3/4 inches

Lot 578 is a good work by Jin Nong (1687-1763) that is entitled "Bamboo."  It measures 8 3/8 by 10 3/4 inches.  It has an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000.  It failed to sell.

Lot 595, "Green Mountain After Rain," by Ju Jie, 23 3/4 by 8 1/2 inches


Lot 595 is a hanging scroll by Ju Jie (1524-1585) entitled "Green Mountain After Rain."  It measures 23 3/4 by 8 1/2 inches.  It has an estimate of $30,000 to $50,000.  It sold for $394,000.

Lot 625, "Landscape," by Zhang Daqian (Chang Dai-chien), 20 3/8 by 15 inches, 1955

Lot 625, "Landscape," by Zhang Daqian (Chang Dai-chien), who was one of the greatest forgers in art history (see separate "Chinagate" section at thecityreview.com).  It measures 29 3/8 by 15 inches and is dated 1955.  It has an estimate of $120,000 to $150,000.  It failed to sell.

Lot 538 is an impressive hanging scroll by Zhang Daqian entitled "Scholar Under a Pine Tree."  It measures 51 by 21 1/2 inches.  It has an estimate of $300,000 to $500,000.  It sold for $374,000.

Lot 626, "Persimmons," by Zhang Daqian, measures 25 3/4 by 12 5/8 inches.  It has an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000.  It sold for $75,000.
