This is a personal list that mixes all genres. These are the classics that document the potential of the art of film. Some are masterpieces. Others are important for their innovation and vision. Some merely have brilliant, unforgettable performances. Others define their genre. A list of only the top 100, or even 250 movies, is too limited given how many different genres exist. Those films in hypertext link to my reviews, whose number will grow to include all of these movies eventually. The list will be updated as oversights are discovered, films are seen again, and convincing arguments are unearthed in my e-mail (CarterBH@thecityreview.com).
